A statue of Apollo, god of prophecy, music, and healing to the Greek and Romans, in the pose of an archer was one of the first large-scale bronzes to be excavated at Pompeii, Italy. It was found in fragments in 1817 and 1818, centuries after the city was destroyed by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in A.D. 79. |
