Lafayette "Fred Ross" Invitational 2025 Girls and Boys Wrestling Tournament. The one-day tournament has become a tradition with both Girls and Boys competing in the same event. I was at a Lafayette Wrestling Meet in 2002 and saws my first girls High School wrestling match. I attended Lafayette in the mid 1980's. Fred Ross was my wrestling coach. He recruited me when I was a Freshman at Crestview Junior High. I was relucent at first. It ends up being the best three years I could have asked for in my young life. There were not many African American wrestlers in ther High School or College levels in the 1980's. Kenn Monday was the only stand out African American, Olympic Wrestler he wrestled for Oklahoma State University. I met Kenny Monday a few times after that he came to St. Louis my Senior year and worked out with us. Coach Ross let them work with the group for a few days before state.
