On the site of today`s castle, the originally late Gothic fortress was destroyed during the Thirty Years` War. In the years 1690–1693, the then owners Sychrov Lamottova of Frintrop built a two-storey Baroque chateau in its place. In 1820, the French princely family of the Rohans bought the Sychrov chateau and Sychrov became one of its main residences. However, because the old Baroque chateau did not meet Rohan`s demands for representation and comfortable living, Prince Karel Alain Gabriel Rohan had it expanded in the style of late classicism in the 1920s. Prince Kamil Filip Josef Idesbald Rohan then carried out an extensive reconstruction of the chateau buildings in the Romantic-Gothic style in the years 1847–1862.
