| In a garden covered with dry grass, and of cabbage seedlings planted in rows, is a large Otaheite apple tree having one section of the tree covered with fresh young leaves, while the other covered with mature leaves, resulting in a multicolored tree. The scientific name of this plant is Syzygium malaccense, and is commonly known by the names, malay rose apple, malay apple, mountain apple, rose apple pink satin-ash, pommerae, and Otaheite cashew. It is of the Myrtaceae family. To the left in the distance is a coconut palm tree. |
