Founded in 1896, Southwest Jiao Tong University, formerly the Shanhaiguan Beiyang railway official school, is the first institution of higher learning in China, the birthplace of China& x27;s civil engineering, traffic engineering, mining and Metallurgy Engineering, one of the first two major sources of the University of communications, and renowned at home and abroad with the name of & x22;Tangshan Jiaotong& x22; and & x22;Tang Yuan& x22;.
