Skyline of the protected historic center, conservation area, viewed from the Vissersdijk with left Zuidhavenpoort. This city gate is one of the three gates of the place. This gate stands at the entrance of the old city harbor. This gate tower was built in the Middle Ages, fifteenth century. The brick gatehouse has four corner towers. The domed tower was renovated in 1858 and has the oldest bells, chimes, carillon in the Netherlands. This chimes dates back to 1554 and first hung in the old town hall. Zuidhavenpoort is a landmark, cultural heritage site, national monument and tourist attraction.
