What is today the intersection of Grant Avenue and Clay Streets in the Chinatown section of San Francisco was part of a land grant awarded to Jacob Leese, an American who became a Mexican citizen. His house, in what today is the intersection, was completed just in time for him to host an 1836 4th of July celebration, so big and festive, its reported to not have finished until the next evening. Shortly after, Leese married and their daughter, Rosalia, born in 1838, became the first child of American ancestry born in the city, still called Yerba Buena. As seen 11 December 2024.
