| Sesame (Sesamum indicum) is also called sim sim, benne or gingelly. It is widely naturalized in tropical regions and is cultivated for its edible seeds, which grow in pods. One of the oldest oil-seed crops known it has small tubular flowers that can be of white, blue or purple colors. Originated in India its seeds have rich, nutty flavor and are among few with highest oil content. |
