Monte Cotugno Dam around Senise, Pollino National Park, Basilicata, Italy. An old tradition tells that the town was located lower down, towards the confluence of the Serrapotamo with the Sinni, but because of the deadly malaria it was abandoned and built where it is currently located. The tradition would have a foundation in the meaning of the toponym Senise, which would mean "place of the Sinni" and not "colony of Siena". The tradition tells that a knight of Siena, a Sienese, wandering towards the Crusades, would have founded the town of the same name.
