Pinhel is a municipality, former Catholic bishopric and present Latin titular see in the central subregion of Beira Interior Norte, in Portugal. The Pillory is representing the judicial autonomy of the municipality, classified as National Monument by IGESPAR since 1910. This monument was built in the 16th century, being of civil architecture, Manueline style and a `pillory of cage`. It is one of the most important symbols of the city of Pinhel and consists of five octagonal steps, the first being semi-buried; an octagonal column with a square base, and the capital, base circular, followed by a cage shot through eight ring-based columns, finished in an inverted cone, the top of the pillory is made up of a cone-shaped hat.
