A musician plucking his Sape. Sape is a traditional lute of the Orang Ulu of Sarawak. In Indonesia, it would be associate with the Dayak Kayan. An Orang Ulu or Kayan could be distinctively distinguished by the headgear which has hornbill feathers. The lute Sape is carved out from a single bole of wood and has minimum 3 strings to 5 strings. Today lute is played during special occasions such as wedding ceremony, or during harvest festival. Many other ethnic too are adopting this instrument over guitar due to its popularity.
