| Exterior view of the historic San Giovanni or Saint Johnââ¬â¢s Church in Bolzano, Italy. Known as the oldest church in the city, it dates to at least 1180. Known in German as St. Johann im Dorf. The small Romansque church or chiesa, is built of stone and contains a single nave and a barrel vault ceiling decorated with frescoes depicting biblical stories. The apse was painted in 1330 to 1335, and the ceiling and nave frescoed in 1365. The interior is only open to visitors on a very limited basis. |
