It is located just off the San Francisco coast .The Island was originally developed in the mid 19th century as facility that consisted of a military fortification, a lighthouse and a military prison building which was built in 1910â1912. It is most famously known as a US Federal Penitentiary that operated from 1934-1963. Now it is a famous landmark. |
