Rwanda dancers at the Kwita Izina ceremony, June 5th 2010: music and dance are an integral part of Rwandan ceremonies, festivals, social gatherings and storytelling. Traditionally, music is transmitted orally, with styles varying between the social groups. The most famous traditional dance is known as the Intore, or dance of heroes, performed by men. Intore dance involves elaborate head gear and spears. In the background there will be a choir like group singing along. As the story progresses the Intore dance becomes more vigorous and expressive.
