The fort was built by the Dutch government in order to protect the Dutch Resident house (now the Great House) and the settlement of the Netherlands of a possible attack cannon belonging to the Sultan Palace. Before it is built into a fortress, in 1761 this place is a trench or bunker for the Dutch army, or better known as Rusten Burg
