In the center of the square is a fountain called Fontana del Pantheon, which is surmounted by an Egyptian obelisk. It was built by Giacomo Della Porta at the request of Pope Gregory XIII in 1575 and the obelisk was added to it in 1711 by order of Pope Clement XI
