Market Square is always bustling and popular with people. In the middle stands a statue of Ludwig Holberg, Baron of Holberg. This native was an influential writer of essays, novels and historical non-fiction during his lifetime (1684-1754), as well as the author of more than 30 comedies. He is considered the father of Danish and Norwegian literature. The bronze monument to Holberg was created in 1884 by the sculptor John Börjeson.
