They are medium sized sea gulls with the genus name Larus which is Latin and refers to a gull or other large seabird. The head neck and underparts are white, their short bill is yellow with a dark ring and yellow legs , the back and wings are silver gray. The appearance changes with each fall molt. They are migratory and most move to the Gulf of Mexico, Atlantic, Pacific coasts, and the Great Lakes. It is the most common gull in North America.
