The red cat bear or red panda or small panda (Ailurus fulgens) is the only extant species of predator in the family Ailuridae. It is a solitary animal active at night, usually spending the day sleeping among the branches of trees, covering its head with its shaggy tail, which it also uses as a pillow. It goes after its food at night, which consists mostly of bamboo, fruits, lichens, roots, berries, sometimes bird eggs, insects and caterpillars.
