The Brazilian red-eared turtle Scientific name: Trachemys scripta elegans is a subspecies of the Brazilian colored turtles of the family Turtles and Painted Turtles. The adult is oblong, the carapace is gently raised, the ridge is obvious, and the trailing edge is jagged. The head is wide, and the blunt head and neck have yellow-green vertical stripes, and there are 1 long red patches on each side of the back of the eye. There are yellow-green linear strips on the sides of the head and neck, and on the ventral surface. The eyes are medium-sized and the neck is short and thick.
