When the gold rush hit Northern California in 1849,the population of San Francisco just exploded. As downtown was becoming overwhelmed with homes and businesses,to help meet the need, more and more homes were being built further and further out in what was then considered 'The Suburbs'. One such suburb was what is today The Mission District, where groups of people would form 'Associations' to buy whole blocks of land together in order to build their own homes on. Then came The Real Estate Associates, which started buying up several whole blocks of land and building homes on them in speculation. Valencia Street being one of the major roads even then, the homes were larger and more grand. These Italianate homes were built in 1876 and many are still in their original design. Note that the home at 933 935 is now a duplex, originally had a front garden instead of a driveway, that may soon change. As seen 19 April 2023.
