Image of a Large White, or Cabbage Butterfly getting nectar from a Heather plant. Pieris brassicae, the large white, also called cabbage butterfly, cabbage white, cabbage moth, or in India the large cabbage white, is a butterfly in the family Pieridae. It is a close relative of the small white, Pieris rapae. The cabbage butterfly prefers purple, blue and yellow flowers over other floral colors; visiting these flowers multiply during its life. Calluna vulgaris is the sole species in the genus Calluna in the flowering plant family Ericaceae. It is a low-growing perennial shrub growing to 20 to 50 centimetres tall, or rarely to 1 metre
