Race in the City is an absolutely novel event within the 2011-2012 FIS calendar, which includes a range of competitions on various street circuits. Milan will be hosting one of the most important events in a crucial weekend for the season of races, on the 14th and 15th of January 2012, exactly halfway through the season. The sprint races in Milan will be held immediately after the Christmas holidays and they represent the third and final event of the FIS World Cup to be held in Italy after the famous Tour de Ski at Toblach/Dobbiaco and Val di Fiemme. The programme at Milan and Dusseldorf (held in early December), is the only one involving two sprint teams, one male and one female, in addition to the individual sprint races. The FIS Cross-Country World Cup will be held for the first time in its history in the Parco Sempione, the historic park and garden in the heart of the capital city of Lombardy.
