An exemplary image of the popular, old and traditional neighborhood of Alfama in Lisbon, Portugal. Beco do Quebra Costas, seen in the image, has a curious name, probably inspired by the high number of accidents on the steep stairs. Quebra-Costas means back break, a very illustrative baptism. Street lamps and potted plant beds in the windows are icons of Alfama, the founding neighborhood of the Portuguese capital, today a major tourist hub and originally inhabited by populations dedicated to fishing and navigation on the Tagus River. |
