Pseudounipolar neurons are a type of neuron found in the peripheral nervous system (PNS). They are commonly associated with sensory neurons, particularly those responsible for transmitting information about touch, pressure, and pain from the body to the central nervous system (CNS). What sets pseudounipolar neurons apart is their structure. Unlike typical neurons, which have distinct dendrites and axons, pseudounipolar neurons have a single process that extends from the cell body. This single process then divides into two branches: one that receives sensory information from peripheral receptors and another that transmits this information to the CNS.
