The Castle of Coyanza or Valencia de Don Juan, of great dimensions and beauty, owes its name to the nickname with which Valencia de Don Juan, Coyanza, was known during the 11th and 12th centuries, an ancient town of Roman origin. It is made up of a moat, a pre-wall and the great crenellated wall with triple cube towers. To the south stands the keep. Some sections of the wall that surrounded the town are preserved.nIt is a historic building, a peninsular benchmark for gothic-military architecture. It was declared a National Monument by the provisional government of the Second Republic. It is located on an old fort from the Bronze, Iron and Roman ages.
