| Porto is the second-largest city in Portugal. It has a population of 237,000, the metropolitan area, however, includes an estimated 2 million people. Located on the Douro River Porto is one of the oldest European centers. It is registered as a world heritage site by UNESCO since 1996. Portoââ¬â¢s settlement dates back to Roman times, when it was an outpost of the Roman Empire. One of Portugal's internationally famous exports, port wine, is named after Porto. |
