Pictured is one of twenty statues on the façade of the Neue Burg or New Castle, part of the Hofburg Palace, Vienna, Austria. The statues were erected between 1895 and 1901 after a plan by the art historian, Albert Ilg. The Pole or Polak by Anton Brenek represents a soldier from the Army of John III Sobieski of Poland, defender of Vienna from the Turks in 1683
