Plato was an Athenian philosopher during the Classical period in Ancient Greece founder of the Platonist school of thought and the Academy the first institution of higher learning in the Western world. Aristotle was a Greek philosopher and polymath during the Classical period in Ancient Greece. Taught by Plato he was the founder of the Lyceum the Peripatetic school of philosophy and the Aristotelian tradition. Although Plato had been his teacher Aristotle disagreed with much of Plato's philosophy. Plato was an idealist who believed that everything had an ideal form. Aristotle believed in looking at the real world and studying it. (c. 428–c. 348 BCE) and Aristotle (384–322 BCE)
