Pines are evergreen, resinous coniferous trees (or, rarely, shrubs) that reach 3 to 80 m in height, with most species reaching 15 to 45 m in height. The smallest are the Siberian dwarf pine and the Potosà stone pine, and the tallest is a 260-foot-tall ponderosa pine located in the Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest of southern Oregon.Pine trees are long-lived and usually reach ages of 100-1000 years, some even more. The longest-lived is the long-lived pine (P. longaeva). An individual of this species, nicknamed Methuselah, is one of the oldest living organisms in the world at about 4,800 years old. This tree is found in the White Mountains of California. An older tree, now cut down, was dated to be 4,900 years old. It was discovered in a grove below Wheeler Peak and is now known as Prometheus in honor of the Immortal Greek.
