This image shows the famous Perseus and Andromeda fountain in full flow. One of the finest and largest in Europe, the fountain was designed by William Andrews Nesfield and constructed between 1854 - 1859. The sculptor was James Forsyth and there are 120 water jets hidden within the Portland stone structure. The historic Witley Court stands on the site of a medieval house built in Norman times which was rebuilt on a grander scale in the early 1700`s. It was enlarged between 1793 - 1833 with further major transformations between 1851 - 60. Unfortunately a massive fire destroyed most of the house in 1937 and it has never been occupied since.
