| Penitente church outside Santa Fe, New Mexico. The Penitente are a small Christian sect dating back to the 4th Century. In New Mexico the community is very private & sometimes referred to as a ââ¬Åsecret societyââ¬Â. They are know for extreme practices including self-flagellation. |
