Peles Castle (Romanian: Castelul Peles) is a Neo-Renaissance castle and one of the most beautiful and famous in Romania. The construction of the castle was commissioned by King Carol I of Romania, and it was officially built from 1873 to 1914. One of the main architects was Karol Bene?. The castle is built of wood, stone, brick and marble, and contains more than 160 rooms. Although it is mostly built in the Renaissance style, it also has numerous elements belonging to the Gothic and Baroque periods. The castle is surrounded by seven terraces that are richly decorated with various statues, stone and decorative vases.
