Pele (real name Edson Arantes do Nascimento), the Brazilian football/soccer legend, arrives on the red carpet for the world premiere of the film, Pele: Birth of a Legend. The occasion was the 2016 Tribeca Film Festival at the John Zuccotti Theater at Borough of Manhattan Community College's Tribeca Performing Arts Center in New York City on April 23, 2016. Pele was a global ambassador for the sport of soccer/football. He led the Brazilian national team to 3 FIFA World Championships, in 1958 (at age 17), 1962, and 1970. He closed out his playing career with the New York Cosmos in the mid-1970s. Pele died from colon cancer and from lingering effects of Covid-19, on December 29, 2022, in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
