Pegasus was the child of the sea god Poseidon and the Gorgone Medusa. The stories about his birth vary: One version reports that he emerged from Medusa`s neck when Perseus beheaded it. Here he was born as a twin of Chrysaor. Another tells that it sprang from that part of the earth on which Medusa`s blood had dripped. Pegasos wore Bellerophon in his fight against the Chimera and the Amazons. There are several stories of how Bellerophon found Pegasos: some say that the hero found him drinking at the Peirene fountain, others report that either Athena or Poseidon Pegasos led to Bellerophon. Before he assisted Bellerophon, Pegasos brought lightning and thunder to Zeus, and after Bellerophon`s death he returned to Mount Olympus to help the gods.
