Perennial grass, cespitose, branched at the lower nodes; is native to South America; in the province it grows on moist soils, forming dense bushes. Floral reeds between 70 and 250 cm high, with glabrous knots. Basal leaves with hairy or glabrous pods towards the apex, the upper ones ciliated or glabrous towards the margin. Ligula from 3 to 5 cm. Flat sheet 3 to 15 mm wide, fur at the base and rough at the margin.
