A section of the beautiful Parterre or sunken garden at the rear of Charlecote House with steps leading down to Shakespeare`s Avon. Originally built in the 16th century, the current house is on the site of an earlier medieval building. Further improvements and changes were made to the house in the nineteenth century. The Lucy family, whose descendants still live in part of the house, have owned the estate since the 13th century. . Changes were also made to the gardens in the mid 18th century by the famous landscape designer, Lancelot `Capability` Brown.
