Palazzo Spada, formerly Palazzo Capodiferro, is the historic building in Rome where the Council of State and the Spada Gallery are located. It is located in Piazza Capo di Ferro, a small square in the Rione Regola, along the path that leads from Piazza Farnese to Via Arenula. The sculptural decorations in Mannerist stucco of the façade of the palace, inspired by those of Palazzo Branconio dell'Aquila, and of the courtyard, with sculptures inside niches framed by garlands of flowers and fruit, grotesques and scenes of symbolic significance in bas-relief between the small windows of the mezzanine, make it the richest façade of the Roman sixteenth century |
