A pair of Men's Shoes on the snow. Regular dress shoes will not do since they are not made for walking on the snow. Even a car does not perform very well on snow if it is fitted with regular tires. If you wear cloth, canvas and similar types of shoes, they are going to allow the snow to seep in and cause you a lot of discomforts. Silk, wool and fleece are all good, and a windproof, water-resistant shell on the outside. Believe it or not, for much of the winter you can get away with a good pair of cross-trainers and warm fleece socks. It's the traction you need over anything else. A winter boot will, like a snow boot, have good insulation built inside of it to keep the foot warm during cold weather. Most good winter boots will also be waterproof or, at a minimum, water repellant. ... Thus, to wear a normal winter boot in deep snow, a separate snow gaiter must be worn.
