When the Pacific Heights School opened, it was originally the Pacific Heights Elementary School, in 1924, with the entry columns, it is in the Classic style. As populations and demographics change, so did teaching styles. Whereas the traditional teaching style of the classroom teacher using a school curriculum appropriate for the grade and approved by the school district board. Then came Maria Montessori, a 19th Century Italian medical doctor, who had the bold new approach where the students mold their learning style. This style became very popular and spread all around the world, including the United States. This school, now the Public Montessori, is an alternative school, uses a blending of the two teaching techniques.
