| Due to the decline in the Chesapeake Bay oyster harvest during the 20th Century, oyster harvesting skipjack fleets also declined. A 1965 change in law allowed the use of motor power two days a week on the normally sail powered skipjacks. Few of the skipjacks in commercial operation operate under sail, and instead, dredge for oysters on the days pushboat power is allowed to move the skipjack. |
