| The kitchen at Karak Castle, Jordan, which was the main Crusader stronghold in its province of Oultre Jourdain and the administrative capital. The huge millstones for grinding corn are visible in the centre of the floor. Stone cysts for pressing grapes or olives are built into the walls. When in use, its walls were probably covered with white plaster, as are other parts of the castle. |
