Zlatograd is a small city with a population of about 8,000, located in the Smolyan region and is the southernmost city in Bulgaria. The city got its beautiful name quite recently, in 1934, due to the fact that tobacco was massively grown here, which, after drying, acquired a golden color. The main attraction of the city is an ethnographic complex with houses of architecture from the time of the Bulgarian Revival. Over 300 restored houses form the architectural appearance of the city. This is the only ethnographic complex of its kind in Bulgaria, which was comprehensively put in order with private investment. It turned out to be a big and beautiful city-museum! |
