The Old Town Astronomical Clock or the Prague Astronomical Clock is a medieval astronomical clock located on the south side of the tower of the Old Town Hall in Prague. The astronomical clock is first documented in a document dated October 9, 1410, and 609 years and 294 days have passed since then. The astronomical clock is dominated by an astronomical dial in the middle and a calendar board below it. On the astronomical clock derived from the astrolabe, you can read various times, the astronomical cycle, the position of the Sun and the constellation the animal is currently passing through, the position of the Moon above or below the horizon, its phases and position relative to the Sun. The current month, day and fixed holidays of the Christian calendar can be deducted from the calendar board. Above the astronomical dial are two windows in which the apostles move. The astronomical clock is further complemented by statues along the edges, a bust of an angel between the windows of the apostles and a sounding rooster at the top above the windows.
The astronomical clock, clock, astrolabe, calendar board, apostles and accompanying movements of the statues are powered by a mechanical clockwork, which has undergone several modifications and improvements over time.
