| The Old San Juan area contains many beautifully restored 16th and 17th century Spanish colonial period buildings. Streets were originally paved with blue cobblestones which were the iron slag ballast stones from ships that arrived from Europe.
San Juan was established in 1521 and is the oldest continuously inhabited European settlement in the United States. The Old San Juan Historic District has been been designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. |
