A green cast iron clothes mangle or wringer, two wooden rollers attached to cogs and driven by a hand crank that when turned wrings water from wet washing. Pressure can be applied with two turnscrews on either side. This one is probably from the early 1900s. Also in the scene is a dolly stick or peggy which is a wooden pronged device that is used for stiring washing in a large tub. A metal bathtub is hanging on the wall of the whitewashed walled washroom. Some laundry in the form of 3 socks of different colors are draped over the mangle. The floor is tiled with large black or grey floor tiles. There may be part of an old wash copper on the right. There is also an iron on the wringer.
