| Remains of a wall decoration in the oecus of the House of the Black Hall in the destroyed city of Herculaneum. This oecus, the main living room of a Greek house, is decorated with white panels framed in red separated by architectural motifs. Herculaneum was an ancient Roman town destroyed by volcanic pyroclastic flows in 79 A.D., located in the territory of today's commune of Ercolano in the shadow of Mount Vesuvius. |
