| 25 August 2025, the SOS Méditerranée rescue vessel Ocean Viking arrived at the port of Augusta, Sicily, carrying 86 migrants rescued at sea after fleeing Libya. The migrants had been saved during a humanitarian mission in international waters when the ship came under attack by the Libyan Coast Guard, which fired automatic weapons, shattering bridge windows and damaging rescue boats. The images show the rescued migrants disembarking, as well as visible damage to the vessel, highlighting the dangers faced by humanitarian crews during rescue operations in the Mediterranean. |
