A nymphaeum is originally a sacred building dedicated to a nymph hence the name, usually placed near a fountain or water source.
The monumental nymphaeum is one of the most surprising and refined places of Renaissance culture in Lombardy. Designed by the architect Martino Bassi and built between 1585 and 1589, this `cool building` reflects - in the ideal synthesis between nature and culture - the refined aesthetic tastes of Pirro: a building designed to arouse wonder, adorned with statues, mosaics, grotesques and other works that refer to Roman classicism, rich in fountains and hydraulic engineering inventions able to amaze and entertain guests, populated by halls decorated with frescoes and mosaics, suitable to suggestively host their own refined collections.
