Normanton church stood on this site before it was flooded to make England`s largest reservoir in the 1970s. It was to be de-consecrated and demolished, but public demand meant that the building was filled with rubble below the proposed water level and capped with concrete just below the windows. As such it is still in regular use for services and weddings, etc.
